Hello, Quest has always been a Windows app, and the games only run in Quest. I just tried to look into Lantern (never heard of it before), but its website has an expired certificate and won't open in my browser. It looks like it does more than just plain text adventures, from what little I see about it online. If you want to make a plain text adventure (like an Infocom game), you could try PunyInform. It looks like it's inform6 code you need to use with that. There is also Zilf, which outputs the same type of games as PunyInform, but you write in ZIL (Zork Implementation Language) rather than i6. I recently saw people comparing the file sizes and speed of the same game ported to each (PunyInform and Zilf), with the purpose of running on 8 bit machines, and I think it was so close it came down to personal preference. PS I believe they don't simply use inform6 (or Inform 7) because the game files are too big, and/or too slow on 8 bit machines. |

I'm picking up on an idea for a game I started YEARS ago (nearly 15 years ago!). But I am interested in porting it over to be run on old (and new with the rise of the Spectrum Next and Ultimate 64) 8-bit machines.
Lantern allows for compiling to these machines, but does Quest?
