Wireguard will not start on Eufy E220 Build

When I start wireguard on the Eufy E220 build, it does not start and I get an error that wireguard is not enabled. I tired the web interface first and then the command line force option as described in the Wiki and I always get the following messages:

Starting WireGuard ...
WireGuard disabled

I have had good results with the web interface but would like to use wireguard so that the connection is encrypted and also don't have to deal with the dynamic ip issue. I have created a web.conf file and have tired changing the wireguard_enabled to true in the file but still get the same result when starting wireguard from the command line. I have also changed file permissions to 777 for web.conf but that also produced the same error. I did notice that there is what I think is a typo in the wireguard port in the wireguard wiki. The port specified in the example is 51280 but the standard wireguard port is actually 51820. It is also apparent that wg0 is never starting and even when I started it from command line I get the same result. Has anyone been successful in using Wireguard on the Eufy E220 build? I will continue working on work arounds and if successful will post the result.
