im using a fork of Tianocore / EDK II
called:
DUET 2020
it´s a hybrid of rEFInd + Clover, based on Tianocore EDK II
The Goal of DUET is to Boot NVMe on Bios machines,
Booting from NVMe requires EFI..
for some strange reason...
ASMedia 1062 PCIe to SATA-III
does Not work...
but Directly to board, SATA-2 3Gbps DUET works ok.
i know NVMe is faster, and i should buy a M.2 and clone or Reinstall Windows8.1x64
but...
M.2 fail easy when overheats, watt/MB second.
purchased a PNY 2TB drive, and lasted 1 day used external with a USB3 case.
Clover is designed for GPT, but my SSD is MBR.
DUET 2020 Installer GUI does Not work in Win8.1x64, its designed for W10, but CLI works ok.
DUET has /drivers/OhciDxe.efi 21KB
Clover has /drivers/XhciDxe.efi 26KB
i could solve all this by replacing the Windows FAT32 350MB partition from EFI-CSM to ALL or BIOS only.
No need for Boot loader, but... if i move the SSD to a Newer machine Z790 that only has EFI,
the goal is to move SSD,
but old MacPro5,1 2010 does Not boot Windows in bcdedit /f ALL Nor /f EFI
only BIOS.
Z790 + i3-12100 consumes 84watts aprox. idle
Old 2010 machine consumes 115w-130watts,
both 4-core, No HyperThreading.
