thanks for doing and sharing all of this.
I recently got a bike with Pinion smart.shift and was a little surprised that I couldn't connect it to my Garmin Edge 1040. It would be great if I could just see the battery level and current gear on the Garmin display. While searching for a solution, I came across your post here, and it sounds like your development could solve my problem.
Are you still using it, and does it work? If so, I'd like to try it on my Garmin Edge 1040.

How can I do this?

The reason you couldn't download any builds is that GitHub automatically deletes artefacts after 90 days (or something). I've fixed it to do a proper release, and changed the link, so you should be able to access it now. Yes I still use it, though only for changing settings as I describe. It's not really intended for showing your current gear or battery level and isn't really suitable for this. I mean you could use it this way, but since you have to start the widget you won't be able to see your normal data fields etc., so it's not really ideal for that. As I mention in the post, I may return to make a proper data field at some point, but as I say, connectivity persistence is a concern due to the silly way in which Pinion chose to have the phone app connect.

Hi Tim,

Awesome job building this and documenting for others to see. I too, I would love to be able to display my Pinion Gear and Battery Level just like I can view my SRAM AXS Gear and Battery Level. I understand your current project doesn't have this capability but hope you might consider adding functionality in the future. I'm surprised someone at Pinion hasn't done the Pinion/Garmin integration as it is needed.

Hi Tim,

works great on my 830. Thanks for your work on this project. My smart shift solution is powered on an e-bike via the battery of the Mahle X20 system. Maybe this is the reason for getting huge numbers for the battery capacity (more than 600 %). But this is not really a problem. A datafield would be great for the future.

That's odd, it must use different units when used with an e-bike battery; I wonder if the value corresponds to mAh remaining, in some way? With the Smart.Shift battery the hardware returns a percentage value times 100, so e.g. 42% is reported as 4200. Thanks for letting me know it works for you otherwise.

I will try to find out if the shown percentage correlates in anyway to the capacity of the Mahle accumulator. Will take some time. Heavy snow in germany in the moment. No chance for biking.

Looks good on the 1040 as well (based on just a real quick test).
In case you find the time to create a battery state and gear indicator data field, I'd be happy to test those. :-)
