How to quote each path/escape special characters

I have a repo where the path needs to contain parentheses, but this means that when using the output from this job i get syntax errors in bash. Is there a reliable way to transform the output of this job such that i get:

Input: /some/path/(to)/a/file.txt

Output: /some/path/\(to\)/a/file.txt
OR: "/some/path/(to)/a/file.txt"

Nevermind, this happened by itself by putting the output into an ENV variable instead of inlining it into the command.
