Some album cover images cannot be obtained.

I can't get the album cover image for some albums (in my case, about 3 out of 600).
When I look at the local storage, the image file for that album is *.tmp instead of *.bmp.
I tried clearing the local storage and reconnecting, but the result doesn't seem to change.
I'm also using yaMPC on an iPad mini, and I'm able to get the album cover image there.

Hi! Thank you for reporting.

There are a couple of possibilities why album cover does not show up in MPDCtrl.

1. Image size limit. If the image size is over some thing like 2MB, MPDCtrl prevents the image from loading it. 2MB is just an arbitrarily number that I came up with but I think it is reasonable size unless there are issue with it.
2. The image is not in the MP3(or whatever)'s tag. There are two ways for MPD to load album covers. One is from a MP3 file's tag and the other is from a separate file (in the same directory named cover.png, cover.jpg, or cover.webp.) And clients use different command to retrieve the album covers. e.g. "albumart" to get from separate files and "readpicture" to get it from MP3's tags. Some clients try "albumart" command and if failed, then as a failback, they try "readpicture" as well. MPDCtrl currently does not take that approach and only use "albumart" OR "readpicture" which you can toggle in the settings.
3. Image may be corrupted. I realized there are many such cases when I created cross platform version of MPDCtrl. Some album covers are loaded fine on Windows but not on Linux. Removing the image and re-adding the album cover using a tag editor fixed the problem. Turned out old iTunes on Windows had a bug at some point and corrupted the album cover.
4. Image type is not supported. Unlikely but...

These are the possibilities I've come up with so far..

My recommendation is that first check settings page of MPDCtrl and try using "albumart" option. Then, check actual MP3's tag and see what's in there. I recommend good ol mp3tag for that.

As for the ".tmp" file, that is a temporally file indicating MPDCtrl already tried to get the image from MPD but MPD did not return or failed to read/load for some reason (thus preventing from accessing MPD multiple times unnecessarily). If you update MP3 file with a new album cover, MPDCtrl will update the image when the mp3 is played.

I add a "cover.jpg" to all of my albums, so I unchecked "Use "readpicture" command instead of "albumart"", cleared local storage, and reconnected, and was able to retrieve all of the album art.
There was just one problem. For one album, the album art was not displayed in Library-Albums, but when I played that album, the album art was retrieved and displayed. At the time, there was no tmp file in Local Storage before playing. When I played, a bmp file appeared.

\はディレクトリ区切りなので、正しくは「キリンジ」ディレクトリ内の「47'45''」ディレクトリ、ですね。
他のキリンジのアルバムアートは取得できているので、「47'45''」ディレクトリ名が怪しそうです・・・

とりあえず手元の環境で適当なMP3にアルバム名を「47'45''」にしてアルバムカバーセットしてみたら問題なく表示できました。もしまたほかに何かありましたらご報告いただけると助かります。ありがとうございます。

一応、私の環境ですが、MPDサーバーもMPDクライアントもWindows環境で動かしています。
そのへんでtorumさんと文字コードの扱いの違いみたいなものがあるのかもしれません。
MPDCtrlはMicrosoftのストアアプリで入手しました。

あと余計なことですが、READMEのスクリーンショットはv4に統一したほうが良いかなぁと思います・・・

一応、自分の開発環境でもMPDはWindowsで動かしています。
スクリーンショット・・・ですよねぇ・・億劫なもので、ストアの方もまだスクリーンショット更新できてないんです。

余談ですが、MPDCtrl日本語表示できていますか？どうも、WindowsAppSDK 1.8の不具合に引っ掛かって、ストア形式にすると日本語リソースが消えて英語のみ表示になってしまっているようなんです。

NativeAOT版をダウンロードして起動したら、ちゃんと日本語表記されました。
ただ、やはり最初にWindows側で一旦防御されるのと、ストア版だと自動でアップデートされるところがあるので（私はそこで勝手にv4にアップデートされて、おお！アルバム一覧が追加されてる！でも1部表示されてない・・？ということに気がついたので）、ちょっと痛し痒しといったところですね。
