Right side folds open in Git difftool -y

When I run :Git difftool -y HEAD~..HEAD where the head commit changes multiple files, in all but the first tab opened, the right side of the diff has it's folds opened, so the alignment is broken.
Does anybody else experience this?

In fact there don't seem to be any folds in those files.
When I reload them with :e, everything is fine and I can zm and zr both sides synchronously.
