algo on hetzner, but without access to api?

see title - can that be done?

when going through the readme to setup algo on a hetzner VPS, i got to the final step where i was suddenly asked for an API token for hetzner.

from what i understand, this API token is only used to setup the provider's firewall to pass traffic through ports mentioned in the firewall article, is that correct? if so, and if i cannot acquire the API token, can i somehow skip this step? if i manage to get these ports forwarded, would algo work properly?

right now my VPS is running fedora.
