Error sending request

I keep constantly getting this error "error sending request for url". LRCGET used to work great now I just get this error constantly, it will work sometimes but fails 99% of the time, no matter the time of day. I assume it's a problem with the API, maybe overloaded, but the issues only just started happening recently, in the past I never got any errors.

Some of my requests are failing too due to timeouts. The API seems to have become quite slow.

Are you guys having SSL unexpected EOF errors? I think I'm having the same problem

I've just upgraded the server's spec (doubled vCPUs and RAM) and implemented a simple rate limiting logic in nginx.

I'm still closely monitoring the server's performance right now. It seems there is one IP sending a huge number of /api/search traffic right now, which is already getting rate limited. Nevertheless, somehow the performance is still bad, but I'll see what I can do to improve it further.

I have a question regarding self-hosting.

If someone deploys their own instance of your project to avoid hitting the public rate limits (meaning requests would go to their own server instead of yours) is there any way to access or replicate the current lyrics database used by the official instance? I assume that the lyrics inside the database itself are what everyone is trying to get, leveraging your server.

Additionally, could you clarify the current rate limits on the public server? It would be helpful for everyone to understand the limits so we can properly throttle or optimize our requests accordingly.

~78Gb uncompressed database file, so plan your free space accordingly.
For self-hosting i needed to update Dockerfile base image to docker.io/rust:1-alpine3.23 to successfully build it.
And this small docker-compose.yml is all you will need

    image: lrclib-rs:latest
    build: ./lrclib
    volumes:
      - ./lrclib-db-dump-20260122T091251Z.sqlite3:/data/db.sqlite3
    ports:
      - 127.0.0.1:3300:3300

assuming that in ./lrclib is cloned (and with updated Dockerfile) repository, and in ./lrclib-db-dump-20260122T091251Z.sqlite3 is uncompressed database file.

@julianx It's not set in stone yet but right now the limit is about 20 requests/second.

As @JacKeTUs said, you can see the uploaded database dumps at https://lrclib.net/db-dumps. It's not always the newest though, due to the trouble of compressing and uploading large file.
