Getting rid of minor tick marks

Hi, 

Based on both the tutorial on medium and my own experience, the annotation, when applied to the inside of the plot, removes all minor tickmarks from the axis of the plot affected. I have tried readding it manually after annotation, to no avail. Do you know of any fixes to this?
