MQTT Integration cannot connect to broker (MQTT LXC)

Hey there,

I've started moving my HA installation (or rather doing a fresh test) to a HASOS in Proxmox on top of HP EliteDesk 800 G2 mini.

I like the idea of having HA in a VM and MQTT+Z2M in containers.

The two are working just fine but I'm unable to setup the MQTT integration inside the HA.

Do you have any suggestion? (On the RPi, I've run mosquito addon and as far as I can remember HAOS on bare metal RPi automatically suggested to configure MQTT integration).

edit1: I've used the scripts provided to install HA in VM, as well as MQTT and Z2M.

Hey there! Thank you for help and moving the post to approapriate place.

This is exactly the problem... I'm unable to start the MQTT home assistant integration.

I provide the neccessary information, hangs for few seconds as if it is trying to connect and then throws:

I've search for this exact problem elswhere and there is not much answer.

I can normally ping from from my MQTT and Z2M towards the HA VM.

Also, this is everything on a single node.

I'm sure you've rebooted everything?

Double and triple check the server IP, user and password. I've never had an issue if those are correct. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok, it worked. 😕 I guess the process is a bit different from when I ran mosquito inside the HA.

For anyone who stumbles upon this - I created a new user inside HA (as per instructions on many places) and used the name of this user in the MQTT Broker field (this is completely wrong). A working example should be something like this:

mqtt_broker: an IP address of the MQTT LXC container
port: 1883 (unchanged, default)
mqtt user: < user > you defined when running the script sudo mosquitto_passwd -c /etc/mosquitto/passwd <usr>
mqtt password: < password > you defined when running the script

sudo mosquitto_passwd -c /etc/mosquitto/passwd <usr>
Password: < password >
Repeat password: < password >

Thanks once more. Now continuing further down the proxmox path 😸
