Yes, definitely. Settings migrations are always handled, so users dont loose their data.

Alright, I can see it now.

Since a lot of users are familiar with the bases way of working. This makes more sense, to move everything related to the filtering part of the columns inside the same "Advanced column filtering" configuration window.

In the "Board configure window" we can only have the other types of configurations like :

• Changing the order of the board : This is required for mobile devices, as its easy to arrange them on small screens.
• Setting limit to the columns : This is actually a concept of Kanban methodology, where we set a liimt to how many tasks we can work on parallelly. Its on roadmap : FR : Add option to set limit to the tasks which can be added inside a particular column #395 .
• The name of the column, etc.

The earlier design, which as inspired from the CardBoard plugin was to have a column type. And on top of this, Task Board came up with its design of having "Advanced filtering for individual columns", which gave a great power of having more granular custom views for user.

If we are implementing this, its going to be a "BIG CHANGE", not only for users but how the plugin works and its going to be a great amount of work in changing the documentations and all. Since, all the past conversations, etc, always refer the work "column type". This wont be valid anymore. As, for example, if say user want to have a column to show all tasks with the tag #wip on them, they can simply add a filter inside the "Advanced filtering configuration window" and now this becomes a "Tagged" type column.

Here are few things which comes to my mind, to be handled before start working on this :

• When user will add a new column, I think its better to keep the column empty, then users can apply a particular filter to fetch tasks allowed for the board.
• ...

Also, since there is already a decision has been made to do the following : #591 .
So, that should be implemented first, because, otherwise its going to be a hell lot of extra development work to shift from the current architecture to the new architecture. Hence, this feature will be dependent on it.

@tu2-atmanand There is one issue with column filtering... what happens when user set the column to disappear when there are no tasks?

They would not be able to configure it.

Maybe all settings should be accessed from settings? What do you think?

Hmm...

There is also this new Idea suggested by another contributor : #583 .

This things will get confusing, if such a change is brought suddenly. On one hand we are trying to bring it close to bases way of working. On other hand a lot of users are already used to the "Column types" way of working with the plugin and they consider the "Column Advanced" filters as an additional/optional power to the columns.

Also, I forgot to mention. This feature will also be dependent on the following two tickets :

• In status based board, for backlog need a time window in Advanced Column filters #491
• FR : Provide new options like tasks scheduled for "Next week", "Next month", etc. To have auto absolute date range #539
