flatten_surface option not works and can you make the ground flat based on a reference point

Hello,

I ran the script and saw the by default the surface is not flattened which makes it difficult with the fluctuating ground and for example the inlet profile or importing new geometry in the model on a position.

The flatten surface option looks as a possibility to overcome this am I right? Or is there another way to flatten the ground with the different roughnesses? Running the flatten surface with true like in the wiki gave a false json file, is this maybe due to changing the name in a latter version of the program?

Hi there!

There are two ways of achieving flat surfaces. Do you want the whole terrain to be flat, or just specific layers?

For the whole terrain, look at "flat_terrain" option (here).

If you want to do it for a specific surface layer, then you are on a right track. The error might be from a missing comma or some other form of a bad json syntax in the configuration file?

Great, seems solved.

I also added an info on flat_terrain_elevation option in case you want your flat terrain to be at elevation other than 0. It's up there in the same link as flat_terrain.

Thanks Ivan, What I saw was that the buildings are flattend and cut at a certain heigth as well when I configure flat_terrain. Should I configure another value for this?

If you provide ground point cloud then building heights will be calculated accordingly even though terrain is flat. They are not cut per se, they are extruded to heights based on original building elevation and ground elevation around them.

If you don't have the ground point cloud, then flat_terrain_elevation can help get you in the ballpark.
