Testing .py files directly?

Hello,

I'm completely new to this tool which looks absolutely amazing! I have a question though: is it possible to test python code directly, instead of going through writing a .yaml?

For exemple it looks like this approach was favoured by mypy-test but since that repo does not seem to have really taken, I guess there are good reasons I don't yet grasp? If so, I would love to be enlightened!

Otherwise, I think would make for a natural feature request, since it's at the very least confortable to write code that editors can easily highlight :)

For context, I personally intend to write and test a mypy plugin for a small library I wrote.

You can test python files with assert_type, in yaml you can create complex multifile setups.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure I understand what you call complex.

For exemple, imagine my plugin is written, could I test this simply, without resorting to yaml?

Also, is there a good reson to use yaml instead of a source .py file directly as in mypy-test? I'm pretty sure there must be, but I would like to know more.

By complex I mean https://github.com/typeddjango/django-stubs/blob/master/tests/typecheck/contrib/gis/test_fields.yml

But yes, you case can be covered with typing.assert_type directly.
