I would suggest a keyboard shortcut (like ctrl+k or similar) to open a quick search pop up. In that pop up, you could type out the file name, that you want to open.
Use Case
When using small screens, I like to collapse the file tree for more screen estate in the .typ file itself.
Now, opening new files is tedious, since you always need to re-open the file tree, choose the file, and close the tree again.
Using this feature, it would be as simple as typing out the first few letters of the file name.
