Firefox source code and self signed extension

I see that the firefox folder in the repo hasnt been update in quite a while and i know that self signed firefox version of the extension is released regularly, my question is the self signed firefox extension using the chromium folder's source code ? or from somwhere else ?, i'd like to embed it in one of my extensions for firefox.
