• The issue is not present after disabling uBO in the browser.
• I checked the documentation to understand that the issue I am reporting is not normal behavior.

I tried to reproduce the issue when...

• uBO is the only extension.
• uBO uses default lists and settings.
• using a new, unmodified browser profile.

Steps to Reproduce

1. add |about:$popup,domain=vik1ngfile.site or |about:blank$popup,domain=vik1ngfile.site
2. navigate to https://vik1ngfile.site/f/2053D8KVlV
3. click download

Expected behavior

about:blank popup is blocked

Actual behavior

about:blank popup is not blocked

I thought it'll work as i see similar filters in ublock filters, In adguard also work.

I didn't find relevant issue in this tracker or main repo.

I couldn't find any about:blank/popup-related filters in uBO or EasyList which seem to be up to date. I couldn't reproduce a popup as per your repro steps. If I can reproduce such popup cases I would like to understand why this would be needed.

Me neither, I've only found an old issue wherein it was mentioned that it won't work with no-popups switch, but will still work with $popup option: gorhill/uBlock#2333 (comment). It seems the $popup option exception was deprecated over time as well.

Me neither, I was only able to reproduce about:blank popup one time, after disabling ALL filter lists (including built-in default filters), but later, I couldn't anymore.

I reproduce popups using firefox desktop browser only (clicking download button on link).
I can fix this by scriptlets but i want to see why classic $popup not work

I've found one more old issue, wherein it was declined and explained why it won't be supported:

• Popups with url "about:blank", can't be blocked gorhill/uBlock#2094 (comment)

But then 3 months later, in: gorhill/uBlock#2333 (comment) someone suggested that it works. If that's true, that means it was implemented 1-3 months after it was previously declined, but it seems that then it was deprecated again after some time, as it doesn't work nowadays by design (means not a bug). Unless it was never implemented, and the suggested working example in #2333 was wrong and was never working.
