Hey guys, I am Abhiram a sophomore at NITT, My primary domain is devOps, other than that I mainly work in backend, cybersecurity, and Blockchain. I really like the philosophy behind open source and decentralization but due to prior commitments I was not able to work on them during my first year but now I have been active in the open source community for the past 7 to 8 months, other than that right now I am actively working with my club to improve my collage tech infrastructure and building a project for a startup that's being incubated by NTU Singapore. I look forward to contributing to the University of Alaska Anchorage Open Source Project and would love to get in touch with Project Mentors and fellow contributors. |

Hello everyone and @pradeeban sir, I'm Aviral Dwivedi, an undergraduate student from India from Newton School of Technology with a strong academic and practical inclination toward Artificial Intelligence and systems development. I’m excited to explore contributing to the University of Alaska's Open Source Projects. Although I’m relatively new to the open-source ecosystem, I’m not new to building over the past few years I’ve worked extensively on academic and independent projects involving Python (with solid foundations in data structures and object-oriented design), Machine Learning and Deep Learning, as well as web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React. I’m particularly interested in writing clean, scalable code and understanding systems at both architectural and implementation levels. Outside of computing, I maintain a disciplined interest in fitness, nutrition, health optimization, and spending time in nature pursuits that shape how I approach long-term growth and consistency in my work. I’m currently studying the Alaska codebase to better understand its design philosophy and contribution workflow, and I look forward to engaging thoughtfully with the community and contributing meaningfully. |

Hello everyone, I'm Ansuman Patra, a 2nd-year B.Tech student at IIT (BHU) Varanasi. I came across the University of Alaska GSoC ideas list and wanted to introduce myself, I'm interested in Projects [1], [2], [3], and [4], all of which connect closely to work I've done recently. Projects [1] & [3] -> Coastline Extraction & Wildfire Prediction:
Project [2] -> BHV: Behavioral Health Vault:
Project [4] -> Proximity in Locations and Emotions (DREAMS): I've read through the CONTRIBUTOR-GUIDE and am currently setting up the repositories locally to get familiar with the existing pipelines. In the coming days I'm looking forward to contributing however I can, whether through code, testing, or meaningful discussion here, starting with one project at a time. Happy to share more context on any of the above! Ansuman Patra |

Hi @pradeeban , I am Pratyush Jha(https://www.linkedin.com/in/pratyushjha-cryptivoxe), a second-year Computer Science student from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU), India. I am experienced in Python, MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with hands-on experience building full-stack web applications and working with relational databases. This summer, I am looking forward to contributing to Project Idea #2 – BHV: Behavioral Health Vault, because it strongly aligns with my previous experience in building minimal, database-driven web systems and structuring clean, modular backends. I am particularly interested in the goal of simplifying a complex architecture into a lightweight, single-command deployable system, as well as the privacy-by-default design approach. The integration of structured image storage with database indexing and optional research modules also resonates with my interest in practical system design and real-world impact. My previous projects have involved designing backend logic, implementing authentication flows, handling database schemas in MySQL, and building structured frontends with a focus on clarity and usability. I am comfortable working with Git and collaborating in open-source environments. |

Hello @pradeeban, I stumbled upon project [3] a while ago had an approach in mind so, I asked the maintainer regarding the project at that time. After that the organization got accepted for GSoC and they aren't seem to be responding to anyone yet. |

Can we get an update on the wildfire protection repository? Is it still being considered for GSoC'26 because the mentors are inactive. Also @pradeeban as it is a new project, what type of PR(s) are expected now on the repo? |

Hello Everyone ! , I'm Samta Sakha, a Data Science and AI student from India with a strong interest in applying Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence to solve real-world environmental and climate challenges. My work and studies focus on building practical Python-based solutions, particularly in areas involving data analysis, machine learning models, and image-based datasets. Recently, I have been exploring the intersection of AI and geospatial data, especially how satellite imagery can be used to understand environmental changes. Projects like automated coastline extraction are particularly exciting to me because they combine computer vision, remote sensing, and climate research to create meaningful impact. The idea of using multi-band satellite imagery, NDWI-based water detection, and segmentation models to track coastline changes strongly aligns with the type of problems I want to work on. I am comfortable working with Python for data processing and machine learning workflows and enjoy learning new tools required for geospatial analysis such as raster processing and GIS-based data handling. I am also very interested in improving model accuracy through better training data, experimenting with segmentation techniques, and exploring additional inputs like elevation or spectral bands to improve shoreline detection. What excites me most about this project is the opportunity to contribute to research that helps communities understand and respond to coastal erosion. I would love to collaborate with mentors and contributors, learn from the existing pipeline, and gradually contribute improvements to the model and data processing workflow. Looking forward to learning, contributing, and connecting with everyone involved in this project. |
