First column of multi-column highlighted on hover if hover to the left of the column

When you are hovering outside of the multi-column column (eg. a gene expression column with multiple genes in it), it still highlights the first gene within the column. It should not highlight anything

Example:
Mouse cursor is in the black rectangle (see sightlines) while the first gene (highlighted in orange rectangle) is colored red.
