Yes, it's still relevant. You can start working on it looking at other examples in the repository (https://github.com/unikraft/catalog-core/tree/main/c-http, https://github.com/unikraft/catalog-core/tree/main/nginx, etc.)

Hi @StefanJum, I am working on this and just need to confirm that I need a BuildKit Dockerfile to build the rust executable and create a initrd.cpio file?
Or would it be enough to use the lib-rust library and add the line: APP_SRCS-y += $(APP_BASE)/Cargo.toml in Makefile.uk?

Also, I saw the hello world example in the pull request but I believe using unsafe C code would defeat the purpose of the Rust example

You can do both, they are different targets and ideas.
The easier way would be to use Docker and get the executable and everything else, follow the example here, you will likely add everything under rootfs/http-c and move the sources that are already there into rootfs/http-c.

The more complete way would be to use lib-rust and have a native application (like all examples in the catalog-core except the elfloader-* stuff), but this might prove to be more difficult, I'm not sure if anyone tested the rust native libraries in a while.

It's an example, it's ok to use unsafe stuff, this is mainly used for testing the basic build and run process anyway.
