Gift Card Plugin - Can't add custom fields?

It seems it's not possible to add custom fields to Gift Cards. Trying to create a migration nets the error:

Error: Could not find embedded CustomFields property on entity "GiftCard"

Is it possible, via plugin, to get this to work?
