Title: Squashfs I/O error ([Errno 5]) during Linux Mint Cinnamon installation on Dell Latitude E5470
Describe the bug
When attempting to install Linux Mint Cinnamon from a USB drive created with Ventoy, the installation fails during the file copying stage with [Errno 5] Input/output error: '/rofs/usr/lib/firewalld' and kernel errors SQUASHFS error: Unable to read directory block / metadata cache entry.
Writing the exact same ISO using Rufus in DD Mode resolves the issue completely on the same hardware and USB drive.
To Reproduce
- Flash a USB drive with Ventoy (v1.1.17).
- Copy
linuxmint-22.3-cinnamon-64bit.iso to the Ventoy partition.
- Boot in Legacy/BIOS mode.
- Launch the Linux Mint installer and proceed with partition setup.
- Installation crashes during "Copying files".
Expected behavior
The installer should copy files smoothly without Squashfs I/O read errors from the emulated ISO layer.
Environment / Hardware:
- Ventoy Version: 1.1.17
- ISO: Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.3 64-bit (SHA256 verified)
- Machine Model: Dell Latitude E5470
- Boot Mode: Legacy / BIOS (MBR)
- USB Drive: Kingston DataTraveler Exodia
Additional context
- SHA256 hashes for both the ISO and Ventoy were verified prior to installation.
- Tested across multiple physical USB ports with the same result.
- Switching to Rufus (MBR / DD Image Mode) allowed the installation to finish successfully without any Squashfs I/O errors.
