File incompatibility issue

Is there a way the software accepts avi and json files instead of HDF5, because I have no option to convert avi and json to HDF5? When I plug an avi file into set parameters, I receive an error that reads parameter cannot read file, choose another one. Why is it the case my avi file is not compatible? Thanks
