v-treeview: select checkbox when item is clicked

Hello, I currently have a v-treeview set up with checkboxes like so:

            <v-treeview
              hoverable
              selectable
              open-on-click
              :items="runningWays"
            />

When the user clicks anywhere on one of the items/rows, I would like this to also toggle the checkbox (in addition to toggling the visibility of children in the treeview). Is there an existing option in v-treeview to do this? Or would someone be able to suggest an easy strategy to customize its behavior? Thanks.
