Description

Casting from a phone to the YTAF app doesn’t work — nothing happens, videos don’t play, and the app on the TV doesn’t open. Is there any way to fix this?

Can you downgrade the firmware and retest to see if it's a firmware problem? I'd suspect it is a firmware issue.

I have the same issue trying to cast from any device. The behavior is very unpredictable. A couple of different behaviors I encountered:

1. [Most common] Youtube app opens on the FYP, no video is played
2. YTAF app opens, prompts for profile selection, but then doesn't continue to play the selected video
3. if YTAF app is already open - nothing happens, the video is not played
4. after trying a couple times at some point YTAF opened, signed out (no profile), but the video still didn't play

In each case on the PC it says "Unable to cast to webOS...". The regular browser window cast works correctly. The official YT app works correctly with the cast.

I'm doing it with matching profiles on PC and TV, but the same happens with non-matching profiles.

It never works any more from my quest -> TV. I'm on the latest G4 firmware (33.22.85) 👍 It used to work.

WEBOS: 33.22.85 - latest as of writing
YTAF: 0.5.0
Cast-app: latest

When casting:
Start cast on youtube-app on phone-device(source)
The YTAF opens on TV
The cast hangs on source-device saying "connecting to 'tv-name'"
after a while(a 30 sec) the source-device comes back with "Failed to cast to 'TV-name'"
YTAF closes on TV

All began when updating to 0.5.0 after updating to Webos 25
Only reason for updating to 0.5.0 was that YTAF began to behave strange and sometimes crashed after updating to WebOS25

when playing on YTAF manually with TV-remote is works just fine, only cast-function does not work.

Tried:
reinstalling developer mode
rebooting TV
reinstalling YTAF

not yet tried to:
unplugging TV
factory resetting TV

Tested again by uninstalling and reinstalling 0.5.0 ipk with device manager.
when casting it hanged at the cast but worked 1 try
when disconnecting and trying again the YTAF open but does not play, it hangs on the casting device
while this is happening it is possible to close the video in the cast-device youtube app, try to disconnect, try casting again and sometimes it works but almost always not.

rolling back to 0.4.1 fixes all problems with casting; it is much faster to open YTAF, may hang just a sec but works every time.

either there is a bug or webos version compatibility issues.

When casting does not work, the app shuts down and there is a popup: Google Cast stopped working

it is not possible to downgrade the LG webos firmware
at least not on non-rooted devices
