[Bug]: unable to archive tiktok videos

What did you expect to happen? What happened instead?

I was trying to archive any tiktok video. After I watched the video and tried to replay it an archive, it said unable to play video.

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

1. Open desktop app
2. Start new archiving session
3. Go to a tiktok URL
4. Watch the video
5. Stop archiving session
6. Later try to watch the archive offline. It says unable to load video when I try to play it

Sorry, I can't repro this issue. Just tested TikTok videos in both desktop app and extension, and they worked fine, without having to log in. Can you share the WACZ file or the URL?

I get to this screenshot which says trouble playing back video when I to reply the url. However I just checked and when I go to look at the resources tab I can see the video has downloaded fine and I can play it.

Replaying TikTok requires local storage to be archived, even if not logged. Make sure that you have both of these options checked:

I believe it should then work when you record the video.

Thanks for looking into it! I archived this using the archive web page app. So are these settings I need to turn on during archive in that app? If so where are the settings found? Or are these settings I need to turn on when I replay the video in the app?

I archived this using the archive web page app. So are these settings I need to turn on during archive in that app? If so where are the settings found?

@asilsidahmed-Newspeak ArchiveWeb.page stores all the data in your browser profile, so yes, it is using your local hard drive space. You can manually download the WACZ files and upload them to S3 storage, and use https://replayweb.page to view them, including sharing with others.

We also have our Browsertrix service: https://webrecorder.net/browsertrix which we offer as a service, where we provide cloud-based storage. Browsertrix supports automated archiving of TikTok videos as well. You can also then upload from ArchiveWeb.page desktop app and extension into Browsertrix.
