Image resolution to small (unreadable), how to send in original quality?

Hi,

I am currently using Wire on Android v4.8.1-16380-prod and just found out, that when I send an image, it gets reduces a lot (~3MB to ~250KB) so that the text on the image was just unreadable.

Since when is this reduced?
How can I send the image in original quality? (I tried to attach as file, was not working?)
I also did not find an option to disable / finetune the re-encoding.
