This is our public roadmap for Astro for Q4 2022. Specific deliverables are subject to change.

How were features chosen?

This roadmap reflects what the core maintainers will be working on, based on feedback that we got from our community and the limited resources that we have. This document is intended as a rough guideline for prioritization, not an exact todo-list.

What about my favorite feature? How can I contribute?

In addition to the items already prioritized here, we have curated a list of "high value" features that users were asking for in our "What should we work on next?" discussion. If you'd like to get involved, one of the best ways would be to champion, design, and implement one of these remaining features! We can prioritize working with you.

Additional "High Value" Features

• More SSR API helpers (sessions, cookies, etc)
• Sharing context (Astro.context, etc)
• Built-in i18n support (routing, etc)
• Improve build performance of large sites
• Improve dev startup on large sites (incremental caching, etc)
• Built-in form handlers
• Official support for client-side, SPA-like routing

Features

• Per-page static vs server
• Automatic fetch caching during astro dev
• Full Vitest support for .astro components
• Astro.glob improvements to prevent script/style bleed

DX

• Continued stability improvements
  • Internal refactors to modularize codebase
  • Internal testing improvements
• Zero open HMR issues
• Zero errors without a clear location (file and line numbers)

Language Tools

• .astro feature parity with .tsx (renaming, find references, etc)
• Complete language server migration to compiler TSX output
• Reach full Language Server support in-browser (for vscode.dev and github.dev)
• Improve Astro component support in JS/TS files (unlocks better testing story)

Community

• Improve documentation and user education
  • Release interactive walk-through tutorial
  • Release CMS integration guides
• Initial run of Astro swag
