Create bundle with net fwk 4.8 (offline)

Hi there,

The question will probably sound really dumb but I am having a hard time to understand how to put all the info I have seen on how to include the .net 4.8 installer in my bundle.

I have seen this discussion #6441 and also this thread #5977 but I am really missing a complete example to understand what I am supposed to do to have it working.

I have made some progresses but the bundle doesn't use the net48 setup embedded in my bootstrap setup and I am clueless as of why.

Here is my code:

   Content is copied from this file with the 2 RemotePayload updated based upon result from the heat command on the downloaded setups (heat payload <payload> -o payload.wxs).

My output bundle setup size does show that the installer was correctly embedded but when running the bundle on my target machine I have the following logs:

"offline" is ambiguous. Are you trying to use the NetFx48Redist package from the NetFx extension (the offline .NET installer)? Or are you trying to include ndp48-x86-x64-allos-enu.exe in your bundle so that it doesn't have to be downloaded (your bundle can be installed offline)?

The latter is supposed to be documented at https://wixtoolset.org/documentation/manual/v3/howtos/redistributables_and_install_checks/install_dotnet.html, but some people have trouble getting it to work: #5310.

My bad! I am referring to the latter (i.e. including ndp48-x86-x64-allos-enu.exe in my bundle).

As you can see on the snippets I have provided, I do use the Payload in addition to referencing the NetFx48.wxs file. My bundle does contain the net framework installer but when the installation happens it seems to be ignoring the local file and use the web call to the Net48FxRedist.

Regarding the issue linked, as you can see, I am already calling Net48FxRedist in the PackageGroupRef .

Your code does not embed it into the bundle, the file must be deployed alongside the bundle (redist\ndp48-x86-x64-allos-enu.exe in this case).

If you want it embedded, then I would just get rid of the RemotePayload and Compressed. And change the name of your Package and PackageGroup to make sure you're getting yours and not the one from the extension.
