Modify MSI database after build

Question

Hi, what are our options to modify MSI database after the build with Wix toolset?

We must modify some MSI tables to fix one specific problem (to be able to downgrade some libraries from previous release of our installer package).

Do we have to use a custom MSBuild target after Wix generates the MSI files (and before they are signed), or should we opt for some kind of Wix extension?
