WLED-AP does not appear when installing on Arduino Nano ESP32

What happened?

WLED-AP does not appear after a successful install of WLED 15.2 ESP-S3 16 on the Arduino Nano ESP32. I have also tried previous versions without success, both using the web installer tool and the esptool.

To Reproduce Bug

Install WLED 15.2 using the web tool on the Arduino Nano ESP32.

Expected Behavior

WLED-AP does not appear.

Afaik we don't have official support for the nano esp32-s3 or Uno R4. There was an old PR that tried to add a buildenv:

• Added support for the Arduino Nano ESP32 #3436

but it remained unfinished, because nobody here had a nano esp32-s3 for testing. I think one of the problems was a very unusual upload protocol, so you might need to upload from Visual Studio Code (aka VSCode) with platformio.

After building & uploading from VSCode, open serial monitor and report back with any messages you receive on serial monitor.

I have followed the instructions. I am trying to understand what the serial monitor is supposed to look like. Here is what is does look like:

Sending messages of different kinds does not produce any results. Seemingly, without prompting the board it sent the ESP-ROM-line that can be seen above.

@weriton1 I just had the same issue, and I fixed it by following the first comment of this Reddit article
The last 0.16.0 (in alpha release) didn't work for me, I was able to connect to the AP but the configuration was failing, 0.15.3 works very well 🙂

Ok so from reading the reddit post, it seems there are some problems with the nano esp32

• it needs a build for QSPI psram mode, while all other 16MB psram boards use the faster OPI mode
• some kind of woodoo is needed to get the board into flash upload mode
• the pin labels on the board do not match with gpio pin numbers used by WLED.
