Take this with a grain of salt—it wasn’t an extensive or rigorously structured test—but I was working on a new feature for my app and tried out a few different AI coding tools: RooCode w Gemini Pro 2.5 API, Cursor, Claude Code, AnonKode w Gemini pro 2.5, and finally Desktop Commander on Claude Desktop + sequential thinking.
Hands down, the best results came from Desktop Commander with Sequential Thinking on the Claude Desktop app. It not only implemented the feature more comprehensively, but also navigated my codebase more intelligently and smoothly.
The refactor involved multiple dependencies, and this setup just handled it better—even though the process was subjective.
To put it in perspective: I spent over $8 using the Gemini API, about $3–$4 on Claude Code, and still couldn’t get the feature working without breaking functionality.
Eventually, I reverted those changes and gave Desktop Commander a try—and it worked, without hitting any rate limits.
