Add ability to dynamically toggle map markers by category

I've implemented this before in some code that is the ancestor to Stellar Places: http://beltline.org/ (click the 'Map' link to the left). I need to track down where this code is.

@joanillus At this point, it would be helpful to get your point of view on how this feature should ultimately work. That will help us document exactly what needs to be done and start discussing any potential issues in implementation. The more clear the issue is, the more likely someone would be to tackle the issue... whether that is you, me or someone else.
