using ExtensionArray from geopandas

I noticed that the latest xarray has some support of ExtensionArrays. Does that mean that we could use geopandas' GeometryArray within our index? The documentation is not super clear on what the support actually means.

Yes this is the goal. Would be good to try it out given all the recent fixes
