I've completely rebuilt the Weather Logic to be smarter, cheaper, and more reliable.
The Logic:
- Raw Weather Data (OpenMeteo): Updates every 30 minutes (Free).
- AI Summary (Gemini): Updates every 4 hours (Paid/Token efficient).
- Day Change Detection: Automatically forces a fresh update if the date changes (e.g., midnight).
The Result:
- You get fresh temperature numbers immediately.
- The witty AI summary updates 3-4 times a day (Morning, Lunch, Afternoon, Evening).
- Zero wasted money on checking weather every minute.
The Fix:
- Added strict checks for "undefined" or "null" data.
- If the API fails or is loading:
- Shows
--instead ofNaN. - Shows a "Loading..." state instead of crashing.
- Shows
- Default falbacks for icons (☀️/☁️) if data is missing.
Plan: Blaze Tier Optimization
- Max AI Calls per Day: ~6 calls (assuming 24h usage).
- Cost Estimate: Nearly $0.00.
- Fail-safes: If Gemini fails, it falls back to Gemini 1.5, then to a smart "Offline Algorithm" that generates a summary based on rain probability without using AI at all.
- Wait 30 minutes: You'll see the temperature might change, but the AI text might stay the same (saving money!).
- Check Tomorrow: The "Day Change" logic ensures you wake up to a fresh forecast.
- Turn off Internet: The app will gracefully show cached data or fallback icons instead of
NaN.
Enjoy your smart, wallet-friendly weather assistant! 🌦️
