The new possibility of changing text via toolbar works not stable

I have the custom button for adding a text in the toolbar.
When I am on a text block, and click "Add variable", sometimes text is added, and sometimes I have to click a few times more, that it would be added. In some cases, it depends on is there is a white space. How it's possible to fix it?
