Even if I love keyboard only movement, when I am using the mouse, I find myself tripping in the UI when moving, unmaximizing, and maximizing my window.
Moving a Maximized Window with Click + Drag
When I want to move a maximized window with a mouse, I would slam the mouse to the top of the screen, click the topbar, then drag to another screen or just unmaximize the window. Zen allows users to drag the window with two methods: the topbar and sidebar.
Issue with Search Bar in Topbar
Currently, I have to dodge my search bar in the top bar to click and drag my window (but I love the search bar too much to remove it)! If my mouse lands in the space with the topbar, instead of grabbing the window, it enters into the search bar for a prompt. Other browsers don't have this issue because of a fatter topbar with dedicated space for the window name and dragging, but Zen doesn't, and this is aesthetically better for me.
Solution:
Do what VS Code does with its command palette: add a slight margin on the top of the search bar that the mouse can click and drag with.
This way, when I slam the mouse to the top, I miss the search bar, but I hit the topbar. Visually, this margin on the search bar is already there, but the topbar itself is not clickable through the search bar.
Issue with Dragging from Sidebar
The ability to drag the window by clicking on the sidebar is genius. Something that I always wished Edge had with its vertical tabs. The only issue is a similar issue with slamming the mouse to the edge. When I move my mouse to the edge of screen, I can't click and drag using the sidebar, so I have to adjust my mouse a little towards the sidebar to click and move.
Solution:
Expand the clickable surface and get rid of the margin? Not sure how hard this would be, but it would be a nice QoL change, especially since in compact mode, I can't easily expose the sidebar on hover. What I have to do now is slam to the side, wait for the sidebar to expand, readjust the mouse back into the sidebar, then drag.
Maximizing the Window Using the Sidebar
I can maximize the window by double-clicking the topbar like most browser, but I can't yet double-click the sidebar to maximize the window in the same way. Potentially a cool addition?
Solution:
Maybe, make a togglable feature that switches between double-click to open new tab vs. double-click to maximize/unmaximize window.
