I agree with this. I booted up Zen this morning and after a quick update was completely baffled when I tried to open a new tab. At first I thought the update broke the "new tab button" but then realized it was opening a search box. Then I tried to press a bookmark with the new tab search bar and it took the current tab to the bookmark and aborted the new tab. Then I went and searched the recent patch notes to find this was a feature?! I get that there are power users here, but I am not and this update is completely unintuitive to me. The way I think of tabs is that they're separate windows just arranged in a row. To me, this update feels very much like you have to fork off of one window in a backwards way or search for something random to then use a bookmark. Because of this is happening in the window for another website, at least for me, this is counter to the way tabs have worked my entire life using a computer both in browsers and in other applications. I really hope this feedback is considered. |

was about to give the same feedback. bookmarks toolbar is annoying to use now (you can still open in new tabs if you click while holding cntrl), but I wish this was the default behavior). |

I agree that after the recent changes, bookmarks should open in a new tab by default. |

Before the URL bar, you could open a new blank tab and then click on a bookmark from the toolbar to access it. The bookmarks toolbar was primarily useful because of this easy accessibility.
However, with the URL Bar, clicking a bookmark from the toolbar now overrides the current tab. As a result, you're left with either typing out the bookmark you want to visit or searching for it among the shortcuts, both of which require more effort than before with blank new tabs. This change has arguably made the bookmarks toolbar obsolete.
To restore the utility of the bookmarks toolbar, the default action when clicking a bookmark should be to open it in a new tab.
