Make Search Engines bar optional

Since the latest update removed this feature, I want to suggest making this optional. The reason why I suggest to do it is the second search bar Firefox (and Zen eventually) has. It is a really convenient feature that allows you to quickly search through different search engines because your prompt persists between queries, so you don't have to retype it.
After the latest update you can't do this anymore, because search engines selector bar is now disabled and the only option you have is to use the main search bar with keywords, but that's totally inconvenient for the use case I described above.
After all, there is already a Zen Mod that hides search engines from the address bar, so why is this necessary?

Have you tried to enable zen.urlbar.hide-one-offs in about:config?
