I've had this thought for a bit with several browsers, and after reading up a bit, this seems like the best community. Excuse my vocabulary here, but I would like to see an option for a history "parallel timeline," if you will.
Normally, when you hold the back page icon, you can see a list of the pages you have gone through one by one. I've always found this really helpful, especially when I'm rooting around for something. What drives me a bit mad here is that it is completely linear. Say I'm searching Google for the best brownie recipe. If I'm going in between several website links, the moment I click on a new one after going several pages back, I can't go forward again. For a search engine, this isn't too much of an issue; however, if you're on a rabbit trail of links, it's a bit of a problem. Then you have to go through history and try to remember the name...
My suggestion makes a bit more sense with visuals, which I've added below:
Normally, you can only go back and forth in one sequence of pages. My suggested idea instead gives you the option to remember that timeline. Let's say I'm at site 3c and I just realized the right website was 1a. Instead of looking through my history or trying to remember the link, I can instead access my previous time-traveling journeys and go back to 1a in just 2 clicks (save whatever method of using this could be). I think it's pretty intuitive and visual for those doing research or looking through lots of resources online.
This doesn't necessarily have to be integrated into the back page button or gesture. It could be a button, keybind, or another method altogether. Let me know your thoughts and if this makes even the slightest bit of sense :3
