Maybe it's time to look at Plasma 6 desktop editor and take example of how you can edit your browser has you needs. Reason is because Firefox toolbar editor suck a bit when it's about Zen full customization. By replacing FF Editor to an in-house solution and take inspiration of KDE Plasma to applets, icons, etc. we gain a lot of flexibility about how we want to have has an browser. Peoples complain there no horizontal tabs? Just add it next to verticals.
What's the usage of an taskbar on KDE? Simple, it's customizable, you can add widgets, and also you can edit everything where Firefox don't. I guess it's not the best comparison between an browser and an desktop environment but i guess you got it about what's i talking about.
Here what's i think this may be good editor:
Position and toggle between two orientation.
Mods, extensions and core features has applets movable everywhere.
Theming included with the editor that allow both CSS themes and FF Themes.
Padding, spaces and size of toolbars, icons, etc. Adjustable.
Adjustable transparency and colors.
Editable Icons, fonts and themes live with or not code.
Has my trough i guess it's a better thing that Zen come with a replacement of Firefox Editor with something more complete and more flexible where all tools are in same place instead to moving to a context to another.
