I think your suggestion is already being discussed here #4092. I've also noticed unloading a tab still uses up some memory (can be observed in It doesn't really make any sense to not actually close the tab completely when unloading a pinned tab, because when you open it again, it just sends a full page reload with an actual network request. It's already behaving somewhat like a bookmark. |

Essentials is meant to hold frequently used or important websites. But right now, closing a tab removes it from Essentials, which forces users to open and re-add it again. This behavior makes Essentials function more like a temporary session rather than a persistent space.
It would be great if users had the option to "pin" a site in Essentials permanently, so it remains visible even after the tab is closed, similar to bookmarks or pinned tabs.
