I'd really value this, too. I use compact mode all the time, and I'm usually managing windows and tabs using the mouse, so using the keyboard shortcut (when I remember it) is a bit disruptive, especially since it requires two hands to type using my keyboard layout. It would also make the feature (which the Zen site promotes as a flagship feature) much more discoverable for new users. |

Also there are sites which "grab" your shortcuts and even this is not 100% consistent, like a dedicated button would be. |

Absolutely, in a tablet form factor device, where you constantly switch between vertical and horizontal orientation, it is very cumbersome to have to navigate through different menus |

A button would be extremely convenient so I don't need to move my hands to my keyboard. 👀 |

definitely would like to have compact mode to be default as an option so there is no need to enable it on every new window |

Also, would make sense to add a menu item to toggle Compact Mode in the Mac menu bar "View" menu. |

I was just about to write a thorough description for an issue (was totally clueless about how to make a feature request until making this comment), but here's the main idea: Currently, according to the zen docs itself :
However, from a UI standpoint, it has been suggested by Juxtopposed, a UI YouTuber, that beyond these two options, there should be a dedicated button to toggle compact mode to make it accessible for people beyond just right-clicking or keyboard shortcuts. It may be somewhat related to issues #8969 and #8489, but what makes this issue differ from #8969 and #8489 is that these tackle the "expand sidebar" button functionality, which, from what I understand, works similarly to toggling between a single toolbar and a multiple toolbars/collapsed toolbar mode, but not really a toggle for compact mode. So yeah, having it added would be really great. |

Hey, I have searched for a little while and there doesn't seem to be any ability to toggle the compact mode besides Right Click > Compact mode > Enable compact mode
I know I would absolutely love, and many others would too, if there was a way to toggle the compact mode via a one click button. (Preferably one that is in the "Customize Toolbar" section that can be moved around), or even an extension that could be pinned and that does the same thing.
This was also talked about here: #3255 (reply in thread), but I feel like it does deserve it's own thread as I did see a few people on Reddit also wanting this implemented.
I did try to code a quick extension to toggle the zen compact mode, (as @VinceCgto tried) through its function and through simulating the bind press, but neither worked.
My personal reason for wanting this as I always have the top bar enabled, but switch between Compact mode for the sidebar that only shows up upon hover, and the default mode where it is always visible. So it would be very handy to have a little 'Compact mode' button that allows me to toggle between them without remembering a keybind or right clicking and then enabling it.
