I've been poking around trying to understand how the HASSIO backup and restore works, and how it relates to the Z-Wave JS to MQTT backups.

Here's what I found, use at your own risk some or all of this may be wrong as I'm a relative noob to HA–

  1. You have to configure and turn on the Z-Wave JS to MQTT backups, let it run, and then make a full HA system backup.
  2. You'll want to store at least some of the HA system backups on an external storage device in case your HASSIO storage dies. (My new purpose-purchased high-end storage card did after a few months.)
  3. The Z-Wave JS to MQTT backup files are stored in the HA system backup file.
  4. The documentation just says to restore everything in the HA sys…
