I just checked both sides of this, and as of today (August 2026) the gap is even wider than 14.1.0 vs 15.1.0:

• Latest ripgrep release: 15.2.0 (published 2026-07-15)
• Latest chocolatey package: still 14.1.0

Chocolatey packages aren't auto-published by ripgrep's release process. Each package is maintained by a separate chocolatey community maintainer, who has to test and push the update through the chocolatey moderation/approval queue. That moderation step is why stable packages routinely lag the upstream release by a while - sometimes by several point releases if a maintainer is slow or the PR sits in review.

If you need the newer version today, your options are:

1. Install from the official GitHub binary directly (no package manager):
   choco uninstall ripgrep
   and then use the ripgrep-provided binary from the release assets, or build from source (cargo install ripgrep).

2. Install a pre-release package if the maintainer has staged one:
   choco install ripgrep --pre

3. Bump it yourself - the package lives in the chocolatey-community repos. PRs are welcome and the packager's guide is here: https://docs.chocolatey.org/en-us/create/create-packages

4. Or just use choco pin and pin ripgrep at 14.1.0 while you wait: https://docs.chocolatey.org/en-us/commands/pin

For most users, 14.1.0 vs 15.2.0 is not a huge functional difference for daily grep use, so the lag is usually fine. But if you hit a bug fixed in 15.x, option 1 or 3 is the fast path.
