As I own several R4 Cards with timebombs, I can't no longer use the RTS feature with the correct time settings on my DS Lite or 3DS.
Describe the solution you'd like
As it's possible to access nds-bootstrap menu with L + down + select, maybe L + up + select (or any other button combo will do) could access a basic RTS menu to create and load savestates as the original R4 firmware
Describe alternatives you've considered
Not really an alterntive but the only way would be flashing back the stock firmware (on the Slot 1 card, of course) and travel back in time.
