At the moment, there doesn't seem to be a way of clearing all the selected categories other than unchecking each box one-by-one.
There's a button to select all categories, but there isn't one to unselect them. And it doesn't seem to work in reverse.
A simple way of clearing all selected categories would be less frustrating.
