This issue lists the feature and questions for the next version(2.0) of BAM

Interface and User Experience

• New detail view design

• Add protection/threat status

  • Initial work: PR #126
  • Discussion: Issue #119
  • Simplification: Only indicate if the species is threatened or protected.
  • Temporal and geolocation variations: Status may change based on this criteria. What data sources can be used ?

• Improve image display

  • Better indicate that images are clickable and can be viewed full-screen.
  • Optimize photo sizes.

• Light version of the widget

  • Inspired by the MétéoFrance widget recommended in GeoTrek.

• Example galleries

  • Ask some users if they agree to be featured in a gallery of BAM usage examples.

Data and Connectors

• Optimize GBIF connector

  • Leverage the facets feature of the GBIF API.
  • Initial work: PR #110
  • Goal: Reduce the number of API calls and obtain a more accurate data

• Add descriptions

  • Use Wikidata API, then Wikipedia API.
  • Initial work : PR #109

• Shared sources between connectors

  • Get taxon data using Wikidata/Catalog of Life as a common source for all connector ?

• Add observer credits

  • Improve data credits by giving the name of observers
  • Ongoing discussion: Issue #108

• External/complementary data

  • Add locations (image URL, other URLs, text)
  • Maybe not doable since we are limited by an URL maximum size.

• Strengthen taxon categories

  • Draw inspiration from INPN’s work on functional groups.

• Add time filters

  • View only species observed in the last month (or day).
  • View species observed over a given period (season, month, etc.).

• Sorting criteria

  • Clearly indicate the applied sorting criteria.

• PDF export

  • Offer PDF export for animations or create a dedicated route.
