Black screen issue

I just downloaded the latest OLED version, but whenever I try to play a video, all I hear is the audio while seeing a black screen. I tried F5 multiple times, but it doesn't work. Need help.

This sounds like mpv is crashing for some reason. Does this happen with anything you try to play or only with something specific?

I'll need to know your PC specs, and also the LOG.txt file from within Stremio Kai's main folder, where exe is. After that I'll take a look and try to figure out what and why does is crash for you.

I've encountered the problem with 5 different shows. I'm using a SAMSUNG GALAXY BOOK4 PRO 16 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and 32GB Ram.

From what I've seen, your laptop uses an Intel ARC GPU and it seems to be a common known issue with MPV not working properly with these GPUs.

Unfortunately, I have no means to get my hands on an ARC GPU so I can run some tests and find the right config for it, so I can't really help you.

Best you could do is run some tests yourself and edit mpv.conf file inside portable_config folder, then change hwdec everywhere to hwdec=auto or hwdec=no. Also, you can try changing gpu-api=vulkan to gpu-api=auto. Even if any of these work, the anime enhancements wouldn't probably work anymore, especially SVP.

Keep in mind, that every time you use Stremio and it crashes (as in you have no image), you have to End Task from Task Manager to clean it up before launching again, or restart your laptop, otherwise it won't work even if the settings are good.

Let me know if you manage to make it work, or if you need more help with anything.

You were correct that the GPU was causing the issue. As soon as I changed it to gpu-api=auto, it worked. I'm still a little confused, though, as I have no problem playing a file in MPV locally, and the OG Stremio/ Stremio community has never had any issues. How does your version of Stremio handle MPV differently, if at all?

Also, how does the 4 profile feature work?

SVP, which is the frame interpolation engine that raises FPS to 48/60FPS, is pretty resource intensive so it needs specific settings to work properly. It is usually recommended to use gpu-api=vulkan as it's the best one in terms of performance, but ARC GPUs seems to have trouble with it for some reason. So I can't guarantee everything anime enhancements work properly with other settings. It might work, it might not.

For anime enhancement, choose only 1080p sources as it automatically renders it to 4K. For 4K sources you need a high-end PC and it's not worth it anyway. If you don't want anime upscaling at all, you should just download Stremio Kai Zero as that has all the other features excluding anime related ones.

Profiles are set automatically based on the source file, it detects automatically if shows are anime based on length, audio languages and ASS subtitles (those colorful ones) and applies the anime profile, same for HDR content if it detects the proper format and colorspace.

You shouldn't have to do anything extra, I've tried to make it work as automatic as possible. Even skipping intros and outros can be set to automatic but that needs enabling from the script-opts folder's files. I strongly advise against automatic skipping as most files have poorly splitted chapters, if any. FYI, if you skip and it seems like lagging or frozen, that's normal. That happens for files that do not have chapters predefined so it looks in the video itself for black screen and silent moments like those when the intro usually ends. This is the same reason why sometimes skipping notifications will trigger when it shouldn't, it tries to identify moments where a skip would likely be where there aren't any defined intro/outro chapters.
