SolanaVault Interactive Demo

This guide walks you through the SolanaVault demo, showcasing real-world compression performance and distributed storage capabilities.

Demo Overview

The demo demonstrates:

  • Compression Performance: 15-25:1 ratios on real Solana blocks
  • Storage Network: Distributed storage across multiple nodes
  • RPC Integration: Seamless API compatibility with existing tools
  • Performance Analysis: Cost and speed comparisons

Prerequisites

Ensure you have completed the Getting Started guide and have built the project.

Demo Components

1. Compression Demonstration

Test SolanaVault's compression capabilities on real blockchain data:

# Compress a range of historical Solana blocks
./target/release/vault-cli compress-demo --blocks 245000000:245001000

What this does:

  • Downloads 1000 consecutive Solana blocks
  • Applies the 3-stage compression pipeline
  • Measures compression ratios and performance
  • Saves compressed data to compressed_blocks.vault

Expected Output:

4. RPC Proxy Demo

Start the RPC proxy for seamless integration:

# Start the RPC proxy server
./target/release/vault-rpc-proxy

🌐 Server listening on http://127.0.0.1:3030
📊 Stats available at http://127.0.0.1:3030/stats
🚀 Ready to serve compressed historical blocks!

Interactive Testing

Once the RPC proxy is running, test it with various tools:

Using curl

# Test historical block retrieval (compressed storage)
curl -X POST http://localhost:3030 \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "jsonrpc": "2.0",
    "id": 1,
    "method": "getConfirmedBlock",
    "params": [245000000]
  }'

# Test recent block retrieval (proxied to upstream)
curl -X POST http://localhost:3030 \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "jsonrpc": "2.0",
    "id": 1,
    "method": "getConfirmedBlock",
    "params": [246000000]
  }'

# View proxy statistics
curl http://localhost:3030/stats

Using Solana CLI (if available)

# Set custom RPC endpoint
export SOLANA_RPC_URL="http://localhost:3030"

# Query historical block (served from compressed storage)
solana block 245000000

# Query recent block (proxied to upstream)
solana block 246000000

# View slot information
solana slot

Performance Testing

# Measure response time for historical blocks
time curl -s -X POST http://localhost:3030 \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"getConfirmedBlock","params":[245000000]}' \
  > /dev/null

# Measure response time for recent blocks
time curl -s -X POST http://localhost:3030 \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"getConfirmedBlock","params":[246000000]}' \
  > /dev/null

Real-World Performance Metrics

Network Performance

  • Historical Block Queries: 10-100ms response time
  • Recent Block Queries: 200-500ms (proxy overhead + upstream)
  • Cache Hit Rate: >90% for frequently accessed blocks
  • Throughput: 1000+ queries/second per node

Storage Efficiency

  • Space Savings: 94-96% compared to raw blockchain data
  • Replication Overhead: 3x for fault tolerance
